The marble monument of John Psycharis

After Daskalopetra the road becomes rising and the shores are rugged.

Just little to the north, on the right side of the road, on a cliff bending towards the sea, once full of rosemaries and cypresses, with a great view of Vrontados, the surrounding scenery and the shores of Asia Minor, there is a white marble monument of the great teacher, philologist and linguist John Psycharis (1854 - 1929).

He was born in Odissos of Russia.

John Psycharis

He studied and taught as a professor in Paris where he died and he was buried in Vrontados as he wished.

On his monument there are some words which he himself composed.

Since this man wondered all over the world, now he sleeps here, "in the light of sun, in the beauty of home".
